Juneteenth is the oldest known commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. It marks today in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that the last enslaved black Americans were finally free. Now, the reason why I wanted to talk about this outside of obviously tomorrow for us, when it'll be past when you see that when you hear this, but we're recording this on June the 18th, so tomorrow is June the 19th. It is now a federal holiday. It's not just another day of work, it signifies the true independence day for black American people. Now, to the non-black people of the diaspora that I'm seeing, I'm seeing a lot of flyers, you know, listen to a lot of flyers in African colors, Pan-African colors. I'm seeing a lot of flyers talking about Joe Love Rice competitions and this is not for you. When it comes to y'all's cultural celebrations, when it comes to y'all's events, black Americans, we respect y'all enough not to throw up an American flag, not to throw the black American flag, not to listen to our music. But y'all, every time a black American wants to celebrate something, it's y'all don't got no culture. We gotta share. We ain't gonna share a motherfucker thing. Juneteenth, the colors of Juneteenth, the flag was designed, I think, in 1997. The colors are red, white, and blue. This is, well, we y'all, y'all should want to find fuck y'all. The colors of the Juneteenth flag are red, white, and blue. It is a holiday based off in Gavelston, Texas, when those fucking troops were told, hey, y'all free. So this is not a pan-African thing. This is not a diaspora celebration. And hell, if you want to be real with it, if you if you want to keep it honest, like let's call it space. Look up a documentary, do something to celebrate Juneteenth, because outside of it just being a holiday, it should it should have been celebrated before. Because I don't even take part of July 4th anymore. I could give a fuck less about July 4th. But remember who Juneteenth is about, who is for, because without Juneteent happening, a lot of y'all black and brown people who are not from here wouldn't be here. So Juneteenth is what it is.
